The Founding

The official history of BME Veloce Corse began on April 3, 2025, when the team was formally founded as a student circle at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. But the idea was born much earlier.

One of the founders, Kálmán Széles, recalls the beginning like this:

When I got into university, I already knew I wanted to be part of a racing team. I have always been interested in motorcycles, and this option didn't exist at the university, so I wanted to create a platform for myself and for everyone who would be admitted in the future, where we could put the theoretical knowledge learned at university to use specifically in the field of two-wheeled motorsport. The goal is to prepare a custom-designed and built prototype racing motorcycle for the MotoStudent competition.

This sense of missing opportunity and determination is what gave birth to BME Veloce Corse. The team was founded by Kálmán together with seven other founding members: Ákos Erdős, Noel Czakó, Norbert Szilágyi, Tamás Császár, Péter Illyés, Szilveszter Laskai, Péter Ceglédi, and Hanna Zágonyi.

These eight students were the ones who believed that BME could also have a community where engineering theory meets practical motorsport. From the very beginning, the goal was clear: to prepare a custom-designed and built prototype racing motorcycle for the international MotoStudent competition, representing Hungary and the university in the field.

Since its founding, the team has worked across several departments — Chassis, Powertrain, Aerodynamics, and Marketing — but the founding spirit remains unchanged: built by students, driven by passion.
